Session on biodiversity and climate change in favour of young girls

Conscious that the conservation of species and the issue of climate change are important in Madagascar, WWF Madagascar and GLOW worked hand in hand for an environmental session dedicated to Malagasy girls.

Conscious that the conservation of species and the issue of climate change are important in Madagascar, WWF Madagascar and GLOW worked hand in hand for an environmental session dedicated to Malagasy girls. 31 girls from the tenth grade from Alaotra Mangoro Region have benefited from this initiative on September 6.

GLOW (Girls Leading our World) is an initiative of a volunteer from the American Peace Corps. "I wanted them to learn more about conservation. Madagascar is full of biodiversity and our girls live around Andasibe and Lake Alaotra. "This region is very important for many endangered species," says Jay Hogeboon, the volunteer. Indeed, young people surrounding this area are not sufficiently informed and sensitized regarding the importance of biodiversity, which is the reason for this initiative.

The program included a WWF intervention concerning the presentation of its actions with young people in order to give some ideas of what could be undertaken by youth for conservation and sustainable development at the local level. After that, there was a quiz about the topic and a movie session in Malagasy about climate change. Finally, a presentation related to the deforestation patterns in Madagascar as well as a discussion and exchange session were on the agenda.

Young high school students feel satisfied and motivated: in short, they have expressed their desire to be involved in all biodiversity conservation actions. Let us increase our engagement with our young people in actions related to the conserving Madagascar’s unique biodiversity because the future of coming generations depends on it.
